Your Guide to Understanding the Art of Origami
Origami or paper folding as what most people know of is something that has been considered to be one of the most favorite hobbies among a lot of people in the arts and crafts industry.
What you need to know about Origami is the fact that until now, its origins are something that still a lot of people are not so sure of. The only exact detail will have to be the fact that in the first century A.D. in China, paper first came to exist. When the sixth century A.D. came, some Buddhists monks decided to go to Japan and then brought such an invention there. Of course, this goes to say that the paper folding art you call Origami can never really be said to have originated either in the country of China or in the country of Japan at all. Nevertheless, considering Origami as a high form of art expression was only made possible by the Japanese themselves. You see, even the word Origami is one that has come from the Japanese themselves. In Japanese terms, the word Origami can be divided into ‘oru’ that means ‘to fold’ and ‘kami’ that means ‘paper’.
Origami can be seen among the presents that you might have received form children that go to school and practice the art of paper folding or what you call Origami. Meanwhile, for some teachers, they also teach their students some paper folding techniques or Origami in order for their students to be able to follow Origami instructions without having to spend a lot of their own money. Unlike the paper airplanes that make use of Origami that you will be getting to see in classrooms that are being made by students without permission from their teachers, you will also be seeing extensive designs of Origami toys, birds, boats, and various animals.
Since Origami is part of the Oriental culture, you will not have to wonder why the most common subject for Origami will have to be some birds. As you hone your skills in Origami, you will even be having a breeze making various animals using your paper folding techniques and even just about any stuff that you get to see in your surroundings in more ways than one.
In the same way as other art forms that you see, when you look at Origami, you will no doubt be hearing its own kind of language. As you slowly immerse yourself in the art of paper folding, you will be coming across the terms such as square base, mountain fold, bird base, and many more. The paper folding possibilities are endless when you will be able to combine a wide range of folds and bases that you might have for your own set of Origami skills.
